GlamFly can surface creative routes - self-connections (combining flights from different airlines) and, occasionally, hidden-city style savings. These can be much cheaper, but they carry real risks. Read this before you book one.

Separate tickets = no protection

On a self-connect itinerary each leg is a separate ticket. If your first flight is delayed and you miss the next one, the second airline owes you nothing - no rebooking, no refund. You absorb the cost. Leave generous time between legs.

Baggage

Bags are usually notthrough-checked between separate tickets. Expect to collect and re-check your luggage at each connection, and to pay each airline's baggage fees separately.

Hidden-city / throwaway ticketing

Booking a longer route and getting off at the layover may violate the airline's conditions of carriage. Airlines can cancel the rest of your itinerary, void frequent-flyer miles, or refuse future bookings. Never check a bag on such a ticket (it goes to the final destination). Use this at your own risk.

Schedule changes

Airlines change schedules. A connection that worked when you booked may not after a timetable change - and with separate tickets, no one re-protects you.
